In the winter of 2010-2011, Sidy traveled to Bamako Mali to record his debut CD Malidén. The CD was released on May 14th, 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Malidén includes 6 tracks. You can listen to one of them here. Or visit www.cdbaby.com/cd/sidymaiga to hear samples of all 6 tracks.
As a Malian djembe drummer, I wanted to return home to record this project so that I could work with musicians familiar with Malian rhythms and able to play the vast array of musical instruments that are available in Mali. I spent two months in the city of Bamako working on the album with many talented musicians and vocalists, including members of the Afro-Cubism project and Oumou Sangaré's band. This album is unique in that it incorporates traditional Malian instruments like the kora, dundun, djembe, balafon, Jeli dundun, and tama with Western instruments like the guitar, drum kit, bass, keyboard and more.
